[Week 1] "The Little Red Hen" (a fable)
[第一週] 《小紅母雞(烤麵包)的故事》
I want to thank Ian, Issac and Hugo for their help during the "tell-a-story-together" session; and the clever questions from the floor. The e-book used in the session & alternative resources are now posted my FB page. Enjoy!
當日我們一同閱讀了《小紅母雞烤麵包的故事》這寓言故事的電子書,之後我在 FB 頁分享了所用的免費電子書及其他網上資源,並發現短短幾天已有過百個朋友查看了我的post。

當天,小朋友都非常喜歡《小紅母雞》這故事,大家更熱烈地討論和分享自己的想法。其中 Issac 更提出小狗天生樂於助人,亦很會做事,想不到牠會拒絕協助小紅母雞。而大部份小朋友都表示換了是他們,在類似情況他們都會願意幫忙。不過也有人直言,無論如何都不會幫手。
去年12月份,我亦參與了兩個分館其中四節的故事時間,分享了令小朋友個個捧腹大笑的故事 “The Gruffalo” (即「狐假虎威」的再創作版)。我問了小朋友幾個問題,他們各自提出的想法和意見。其中一位小朋友對這故事/這教訓的見解很令我意外(這裡不詳談,好讓大家猜猜)。
無論為老師和學生分享好書 (Booktalk) 或 與小朋友說故事 (Storytime),我也愛留白;就是提出問題或議題,不設既定答案或想法,預留空間給你去享受及依個人經驗去領會。 對我來說小朋友對寓言故事的即時反應和分享,才是故事時間的黃金時段。

[第二週] 《青蛙和蟾蜍好伙伴》
Surprises from the floor
Thanks to my young audience for explaining the physically differences between frogs and toads and suggesting the best way for Frog to "catch" the blown away list. What impressed me most was the confidence of my young audience who claimed they could remember their daily routine without a reminder list.
Activity
Anyway, everyone was given a template to write their list of things to do in the morning and in the evening. Templates can be found on http://pinterest.com/ or other websites for teachers. Please choose a template best fits age of your kids or pupils.

這星期我們分享了 Newbery Award Honour Book 1973《青蛙和蟾蜍好伙伴》其中的一個故事《清單》。故事開始之前,邀得一位小聽眾為我們簡單解釋青蛙(Frog)和蟾蜍(Toad)的分別。說到故事高潮,又得到一個非常聰明的建議,建議故事中的青蛙用牠的特長拾回(catch)從蟾蜍手中吹走了的清單(是甚麼專長我卻要賣個關子)。 小聽眾的投入分享,才是黃金時間。

Draw what you want to buy and make a saving plan.
Our young audience has taken the time to draw the items they wished to buy and some have even worked out their saving plan. I was most impressed to see a picture of Optimus Prime sketched and coloured in 15minutes; with a note on the target amount to save each week. Can you guess items the other items on their wish list ?

[Week 4] Theme story: "Dragons and Giants"

Activity and Discussion:
Draw or write what scares you most. Suggest a way to make your less afraid and help yourself overcome your fears.
We have talked about fears, what scared us most and how we reacted when we were afraid. We shaked and chattered our teeth. Some of our young audience were afraid of animals, some were scared by the thoughts of dinosaurs or imaginary animals. But when we said it our loud in a big group, we were less afraid. We laughed and overcame our fears.
Parents may find more "Frog and Toad" stories from your nearby public libraries. FYI, the books are available in both Chinese and English.
